Professional:

Elected in 2013, Council Member Darden Rice is serving her second term on the St. Petersburg City Council. During her tenure, Council Member Rice has served on regional transportation, planning, and environmental boards throughout the Tampa Bay region. She is the current Chair of Forward Pinellas, Pinellas County’s land use and transportation planning agency, a member of the Tampa Bay Water Board of Directors, the regional water supply utility, and a past Chair of both City Council and the Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority (PSTA). During her tenure on City Council, Council Member Rice founded and chaired the Health, Energy, Resiliency, and Sustainability Committee, where she championed cutting-edge policies, such as the City’s first expanded curbside recycling program, the first sustainability action plan, and the creation of the City’s Health in all Policies. Council Member Rice is the current Chair City Council’s Public Services & Infrastructure Committee and a past Chair of the Housing, Land Use and Transportation Committee.

Community:

Council Member Rice brings two decades of experience working for national, state, and local organizations in public interest communications and issue-based advocacy, including the Sierra Club, the Gulf Restoration Network, and the League of Women Voters. Her advocacy efforts have included promoting access to affordable, quality healthcare, defending voting rights by fighting against unfair voter suppression laws, protecting clean water, and promoting clean energy.  The US Green Building Council recognized Councilmember Rice with an “Outstanding Green Elected Official” Award in 2016.

Education and Awards:
Eckerd College, bachelor's degree in American Studies, graduated with Distinction.  
Earned awards for collegiality and academic achievement offered by faculty and peers.  
Acknowledged with an Outstanding Alumni Award in 2008.

Personal:
St. Petersburg resident nearly 20 years. Homeowner since 1998. A love of Florida and a respect for public service runs deep in Darden's family.
