Advisory Commission on Aging

Overview

Since 1973 the Commission on Aging, a group of volunteer community leaders, has been serving as an advisory body to the City of St. Petersburg. The 15 members of the Board support, leverage and advocate for programs and resources that protect and ensure quality of life for St. Petersburg’s aging community. The Commission’s vision is a community where seniors can receive the services and resources needed to live a safe, independent and dignified life.

Purpose of Commission

  • To identify the needs of seniors, their families, and their caregivers, and to explore solutions for the problems and issues they face
  • To be a resource and advocate for seniors by promoting a positive aging experience and by informing the Mayor and City Council of major issues facing the City’s senior population
  • To measure the City’s impact to the changing needs of its aging population
  • To identify funding sources, which may assist the City in its implementation of senior focused services
  • To partner and collaborate with elder service providers, including those of surrounding communities
