Nuisance Abatement Board

Overview

The Nuisance Abatement Board is a seven-member quasi-judicial board. This board hears and decides cases involving properties in the City allegedly being used for:

  • illegal drug activity
  • prostitution
  • criminal gang activity
  • dealing in stolen property
  • operation of pain management clinics that generate certain illegal activities

After hearing evidence and argument, the Board may declare a property to be a public nuisance and then can impose fines and other requirements on the property owner with the goal of abating the nuisance. This Board plays an important role in reducing crime and improving the safety and welfare of St. Petersburg citizens and visitors by encouraging property owners to take responsibility to prevent their properties from becoming the site of ongoing nuisance activities.
