St. Petersburg, Fla. (September 25, 2015) - An oddity will occur in the skies over downtown St. Petersburg this weekend. The sun will actually rise after dark as the city launches its new "Sunshine City" marketing campaign Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings.

From sunset to midnight throughout this weekend, a sun will rise up the Priatek Tower (formerly the Bank of America Tower/One Progress Plaza) at the corner of Central Avenue and Third Street. On the west facade of the 28-story building, 3D motion graphics powered by 100,000 lumens and spanning 15,000 square feet will create a masterpiece of live entertainment and art.

The sun will be powered by the people - people who share their love for St. Pete on social media at #SunshineStPete. These social media posts will propel the sun up the building.

HERE'S HOW:  Participants should use #SunshineStPete on their Twitter or Instagram pages as they share what they love about our city. Or, post on the City of St. Petersburg's facebook page their love for the Sunshine City with #SunshineStPete in the body copy ( Comments will appear in lights on the side of the Priatek Tower. Keep posts coming all weekend long and together we will make the sun rise at night over St. Pete!

This is part of a new marketing campaign launched by the City of St. Petersburg that promotes the city as a place to live, work and play by incorporating those who make St. Petersburg great - it's people - in sharing their stories. See some of the campaign materials and videos at
