Emergency Roadway Repairs to close part of Fourth Street South
St. Petersburg, Fla. (September 28, 2018) Previously reported road repairs and underground utility work along Fourth Street South have taken on a new sense of urgency. Beginning Monday, October 1, Fourth Street will be closed to through traffic from 22nd through 30th Avenues South. The road surface between 25th and 26th Avenues will be dug up to allow more extensive work on underground sanitary sewer lines.
As crews excavated areas near roadway that began to cave-in late last week, they discovered a sanitary sewer line that had broken – and was in immediate need of lining. The work ended up being more intricate, requiring the open-trench dig.
While local traffic will have access to addresses immediately north and south of the excavation, drivers will have to detour around the eight-block section through October 6.
Alternate routes and modification of traffic patterns will be fully signed; however the City of St. Petersburg recommends that drivers find an substitute route during the construction times.
