SPECIAL EDITION: UTILITY RATE CHANGES

With utility rates and charges changing on Oct. 1, here's some helpful info on the changes, assistance programs, how you can lower your monthly bill and more. Visit stpete.org/rates for more info.

RATE CHANGES AT A GLANCE

Adjustments to sanitation and stormwater fees are in your October bill and adjustments to water and wastewater will be in your November bill.

A typical single-family utility customer will notice the average monthly increase based on their stormwater billing tier below:

  • Tier 1: $6.61
  • Tier 2: $7.48
  • Tier 3: $8.48
  • Tier 4: $9.83

Example based on typical monthly water use of 4,000 gallons. Customer bills will vary based on monthly water usage. Find detailed rate changes at stpete.org/rates.

WHY DO UTILITY RATES NEED TO CHANGE?

Good question! Utility fees support the continued efforts to enhance the reliability of the city’s drinking water, wastewater, reclaimed water, stormwater and sanitation utilities. Fees also support the operations, maintenance and infrastructure of those utilities to meet the current and future needs of our community.

Most of St. Pete’s aging infrastructure has reached or exceeded its design lifespan. In order to maintain and preserve our infrastructure, continued investment is required. Utility fees will continue to be evaluated annually to ensure safe, reliable service.

REMEMBER STORMWATER TIERED RATES?

In 2019, the City implemented a tiered rate structure for stormwater fees. Single-family residential properties are classified into tiers, based on the square footage of impervious surface area (surfaces that water runs off), so that a property’s fee more accurately reflects its impact on the stormwater system.

Visit the Stormwater Review and Appeals Portal at stpete.org/rates to see your property's standing. You can submit an appeal for reevaluation if you feel the property has been measured incorrectly.
