How to Get Rid of Your Christmas Tree in St. Pete

St. Petersburg, FL (December 2021) - St. Pete utility customers have three options to dispose of their Christmas trees this year. With each option, all lights, ornaments, tree stands, plastic tree disposal bags and other decorations should be removed from the tree. Tanglers like lights and garland should not be recycled. The City of St. Petersburg recommends reducing waste by reusing lights and ornaments, or donating them. Collected trees will be turned into mulch, which is free to residents at the Brush Sites.

Christmas Tree Disposal Options:

  1. Participate in the one-time citywide Christmas tree collection event on Saturday, Jan. 8, 2022. Place the tree out for collection before 7 a.m. in the same location where trash is usually collected - if trash is picked up at the curb, trees should be placed at the curb; if trash is picked up in the alley, trees should be placed in the alley. Do not place the tree inside trash or recycling containers or lean the tree against electrical poles, trash containers, water meters, etc.
  2. Drop trees off at one of the city's Brush Sites below. Brush Sites are open 9 a.m. - 5:30 p.m., 7 days a week. Brush sites are closed on Christmas Day and New Year's Day. Residents should bring a photo ID and water bill for proof of residency. More information at stpete.org/brushsites.
