Lift Station Construction to Close a Portion of 43rd Street South in Mid-February

Crews are scheduled to begin construction in mid- to late February on a new lift station at 690 43rd St. S., just west of the Yutzy Tree Service fence line. During construction, a portion of 43rd St. S., from Fairfield Avenue South to the Pinellas Trail, will be closed for approximately three weeks.  Access to the Childs Park YMCA will be maintained through southbound 43rd Street.

Lift station construction is expected to run through the end of May 2022, barring any unforeseen conditions. Residents can expect to see and hear construction activity and possibly feel minor vibration from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday.

In April 2022, crews will begin construction for a new pipeline to connect the new lift station to the Pasadena Master Pump Station on Park Circle South. Pipeline construction will occur along 43rd Street South between 1st Avenue South and the Pinellas Trail, during which sections of 43rd Avenue will be temporarily closed.

The pipeline will be installed by horizontal directional drilling, a trenchless technique that minimizes above-ground disruptions, as the pipe is installed by tunneling under the roadway and intersections. During this process, pipe must be laid out along the roadway, fused together, and then pulled continuously through the tunnel until it is fully installed. This operation will impede driveway access in affected segment for five to seven days, then the operation will move to the next location.

All detours and closures will be clearly marked, and variable message boards will keep motorists and pedestrians informed. Please use caution while driving, bicycling or walking in the area, and allow extra time for travel.

This project will improve wastewater system reliability and minimize wet weather overflows. It is required by Florida Department of Environment Protection Consent Order No. 16-1280 and will be utilized only during peak wet weather events to prevent disruptions to the normal function of the City’s wastewater system. The project includes:

  • Installing a new lift station at 690 43rd S.
  • Constructing a new 16-inch diameter pipeline to connect the new lift station to the Pasadena Master Pump Station located on Park Circle South,
  • Replacing aging brick manholes and 460 feet of gravity sewer line on 43rd S.
