City of St. Petersburg Begins Redistricting Process; Prepares to Appoint Citizens Redistricting Commission
Starting today, May 17, interested and engaged residents are invited to express their interest in being considered for appointment to the Citizens Redistricting Commission, which will be responsible for creating and recommending new boundaries for those City Council districts through a process established by the City Charter. The commission will be comprised of nine total members, with one member appointed by Mayor Ken Welch and by each of the eight City Council Members. Appointments are expected to be finalized at the August 4, 2022 meeting of City Council. For more information about the commission, visit stpete.org/citizens-redistricting-commission.
The primary goal of redistricting is to balance the population of City Council districts as evenly as possible while adhering to requirements for equitable representation established by the U.S. constitution and the Florida constitution.
