ST. PETERSBURG, FL - Every 10 years, after the release of the decennial census data, state and local governments redraw the boundaries of their legislative districts through a process known as "redistricting." Redistricting adjusts the boundaries of legislative districts based on the new census data to ensure equitable representation of voters. The City of St. Petersburg's redistricting process will examine the boundaries of the eight districts used to elect members of the City Council.

Starting today, May 17, interested and engaged residents are invited to express their interest in being considered for appointment to the Citizens Redistricting Commission, which will be responsible for creating and recommending new boundaries for those City Council districts through a process established by the City Charter. The commission will be comprised of nine total members, with one member appointed by Mayor Ken Welch and by each of the eight City Council Members. The primary goal of redistricting is to balance the population of City Council districts as evenly as possible while adhering to requirements for equitable representation established by the U.S. constitution and the Florida constitution.
