Special Edition: SunRunner Bus Rapid Transit

It's here! Tampa Bay's first-of-its-kind bus rapid transit service is now open to the public. Enjoy traffic-free cruising from beach to 'Burg 7 days a week from 6 a.m. to midnight, with a bus coming every 15 minutes during peak times.

YEAH, IT'S PRETTY COOL

We have to brag about some of the SunRunner's features:

  • Free Wi-Fi
  • On-board bike racks
  • Smooth, level, multi-door boarding
  • Free through April 2023, then pay seamlessly with your Flamingo Fares app or card
  • Easy access to St. Pete's most iconic attractions
  • Provides attractive car-free options

WHAT'S THE DEAL WITH THOSE RED LANES?

You may have noticed the red lanes along 1st Avenues North and South. Those are the SunRunner’s bus-and-turn lanes and they're reserved for the SunRunner buses and emergency vehicles to help them move more efficiently through traffic. But, ALL drivers can use the bus-and-turn lanes for up to one block before or after making a turn or accessing driveways, businesses and adjacent street parking.

RIDE FREE

Did you know the SunRunner is FREE to ride for the first six months of service? That’s right – from its launch in October 2022 through April 2023, the SunRunner will cost riders nothing to navigate from the beach to the ‘Burg and anywhere in between!

After its six-month launch period, SunRunner fares will be the same as PSTA’s regular service and payment will be accepted through the Flamingo Fares card and app.

MINI MOBILE MUSEUMS

Gracing 16 of the station platforms are stained glass designs by local artist Catherine Woods, intended to complement the flora, fauna and architecture of the station’s surroundings. While each station is a work of art in its own right, they also function together as one continuous design to create a mural-like effect.

Also, the SunRunner buses themselves feature the smiling Mr. Sun design we all know and love by local artist Chad Mize.
