St. Petersburg Launches 'Safe Summer' Block Party and Friday Event Series

June 5, 2024 - With Neighborhood Health and Safety as one of St. Petersburg Mayor Ken Welch's key Pillars for Progress, St. Pete's 'Safe Summer' activities will help keep all children safe all summer long.

"A 'Safe Summer' is defined as one where residents in the community take the initiative to be active in neighborhood projects and programs," said Lisa Wheeler-Bowman, the City's Community Impact and Safety Liaison. "St. Pete residents are encouraged to be vigilant and to take care of the people that live around them. 'See something, say something' is the main focus of this summer programming."

Safe Summer Block Party: St. Pete's Safe Summer kicks off Saturday, June 8, with the Safe Summer Block Party from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. at Campbell Park Recreation Center (601 14th St. S). St. Pete families are invited to celebrate the start of summer break and learn about violence prevention. The Safe Summer Block Party, co-sponsored by the Tampa Bay Rays, will be a safe environment with family-friendly fun for all ages to enjoy. Refreshments will be served for attendees, including snow cones and popcorn.

Safe Summer Fridays: The Block Party will kick off a new events series, Safe Summer Fridays, which will be held every other Friday, June 14 to August 9, from 6:30-10:30 p.m., at Lake Vista Recreation Center, 1401 62nd Ave. S.

Safe Summer Fridays are for youth ages 12-16 and will provide a safe space for young teens to enjoy an open gym, movie night, and refreshments. Upon arriving, the guardians of the participants will need to sign a waiver for the teens to gain access to these evening events.

Safe Summer Friday Dates: June 14, June 28, July 12, July 26 and August 9. Updates and more information can be found at www.stpete.org/safesummer.
