Project Overview

The Engineering & Capital Improvements Department is in the process of awarding a construction contract for the replacement of 12-inch diameter potable water mains within the Downtown area. The work will be within the existing public rights-of-way along:

  • 7th St. S. between Central Ave. and 2nd Ave. S.
  • 2nd Ave. S. between 7th St. S. and 1st St. S.

The work will consist of constructing approximately 3,500 linear feet of 12-inch diameter water main pipe and associated accessories main and restoration of roadways and disturbed areas. The new 12-inch water main will be constructed to replace the existing water main and existing services and fire hydrants will be connected to the new water main.

The construction method will include a combination of open cut and horizontal directional drilling method to minimize traffic disruptions and unnecessary inconveniences during the construction. The water main replacement to be completed in segments to minimize traffic impact and water disturbance within the project limits. Road surface and sidewalk restoration will be completed within the impacted areas.

Potential Public Impacts

The City has made efforts to minimize the potential for traffic disruptions and unnecessary inconveniences during the construction phase of this project. However, due to the location of new and existing underground utilities, it will be necessary to temporarily close traffic lanes and detour traffic for limited periods of time. The contractor will be required to maintain access to businesses and residences affected by these construction activities.

Project Timeline

Construction is scheduled to begin approximately in summer of 2021 and expected to be completed during the first quarter of 2022.
