St. Petersburg adopted its first human rights ordinance that extended rights to the gay community in 2003. Since that time, protections and benefits for the LGBT community have continued to expand, including Mayor Kriseman's historic 2014 "Points of Pride" Proclamation that highlight a series of new initiatives for residents celebrating the gay lifestyle. If you need specific access to programs for the LGBT community, the city offers liaisons in the Mayor's Officeand the St. Petersburg Police Department.
Visitors here will find a destination that is rich in terms of its offerings for the LGBT community. The city has been voted for the past three years as America's No. 1 Arts Destinations. It was recently ranked as the best beach destination in the United States. And a busy calendar events means that something special is going on nearly every weekend, whether its a Rays baseball game at Tropicana Field, an IRL-sanctioned Grand Prix of St. Petersburg, theater under the stars, an outdoor symphony concert or art show.
