Civil Service Board
Overview
The Civil Service Board is a quasi-judicial review board created by the St. Petersburg City Charter to provide classified employees with an economical and less formal opportunity to have certain disciplinary actions reviewed by a board of lay persons. The board acts as a fact finding body that determines whether management had sufficient cause to discipline employees in cases involving termination, involuntary demotion, or suspension in excess of fifteen (15) calendar days.

Function of Committee
- Board members must be residents of the City and are appointed by the City Council.
- The board is comprised of five (5) regular and three (3) alternate members who serve overlapping three (3) year terms.
- The board chairperson and vice-chairperson are nominated and elected by ballot, serve one (1) year terms, and may serve in that capacity for two consecutive terms.
- The board’s authority is set forth in the City of St. Petersburg Municipal Code Section 22-22.
Meeting Dates & Agendas
The board determines the frequency, day, and place of its meetings in order to best carry out the powers and duties entrusted to it. Notice of board meetings are published in the manner required by law and are open to the public.
