State Legislative Agenda
Focusing on the vision that St. Pete will be a diverse, vibrant city guided by principled progress and intentional inclusivity, where innovation, partnerships, and ingenuity create opportunity for all – together, St. Petersburg Mayor Ken Welch and City Council, will work to make progress on the following priorities during each respective Legislative Session.
Housing Opportunities For All – "St. Petersburg will deliver on its promise of safe, affordable, and attainable housing, using all the tools and resources at its disposal."
- Housing – We support reforms that strengthen the ability of municipalities to invest in affordable housing developments, utilize tax abatements, and other localized tools to increase supply.
- Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs) – We support efforts that grant municipalities greater ability to incentivize and streamline the construction of ADUs.
- Condo Safety – We support efforts that clarify and strengthen condo building inspections, improve safety, and provide financial assistance to property owners who cannot afford needed safety improvements.
Economic and Workforce Development –"St. Petersburg is a thriving city with a 21st Century economy capable of delivering equity without sacrificing the growth and development of our community."
- Workforce Development – We support continued investments in K-12 schools, apprenticeship programs, workforce training centers, and entrepreneurship hubs. We also support programming in Institutions of Higher Education like the USF College of Nursing that target workforce gaps.
- Transportation – We support efforts to increase access to affordable and innovative transportation solutions, including electric vehicles, passenger and light rail, and Bus Rapid Transit.
- Infrastructure – We support funding directives for hard infrastructure, including hurricane mitigation, clean water infrastructure, and bridge repairs and safety enhancements.
- Next Gen Solutions – We support financial and capacity-building investments in academic research and entrepreneurship to solve these challenges, including collaborative research centers like the Florida Flood Hub.
- Human Capital – We support investments in programs that will improve the everyday lives of our neighbors like affordable healthcare, access to healthy food, and emotional and mental health services.
