City of St. Petersburg to Host Public Meetings for Proposed Changes to SunRunner Bus Station Areas

June 14, 2023 - The City of St. Petersburg will be hosting two public meetings to hear input about Transit Oriented Development (TOD) near and around existing SunRunner bus station areas.

Wednesdays, June 21 & June 28
5:30–7:30 p.m.
St. Petersburg College (SPC) Midtown Campus
Jamerson Community Room 141
1048 22nd St. S.

The public meetings will focus on potential changes in density/intensity, height, design standards, and transit-supportive uses around the existing SunRunner bus stations located on 32nd and 22nd Streets. These interactive meetings will allow the public to ask questions, share suggestions, exchange ideas, and join the community in collaborating on how the city should continue to grow in these areas. Both meetings will cover the same material.

This initiative is limited to commercial and mixed-use categories only and will not include changes to single-family parcels or parcels located within National Register and Local Historic Districts.

About the Proposed Changes for Commercial and SunRunner Corridor Station Areas

The City of St. Petersburg is initiating amendments to the Comprehensive Plan text, Land Development Regulations (LDRs) and Official Zoning Map in order to implement the SunRunner Rising Development Study, which focuses on best practices for Transit Oriented Development (TOD) near and around existing SunRunner station areas necessary to support the continued success of this valuable community resource.

The Study was a joint effort between the City of St. Petersburg, Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority (PSTA), and Forward Pinellas intended to assist the cities of St. Petersburg, South Pasadena, and St. Pete Beach by providing community-supported land use strategies, equitable economic development plans and programs, and a county-wide framework for TOD in Pinellas County.

The project will also address the City’s Commercial Corridors by considering increases in the allowed density and intensity in our commercial corridor zoning districts: Corridor Commercial Suburban (CCS) and Corridor Commercial Traditional (CCT).
