St. Petersburg Mayor Kenneth T. Welch Declares Local State of Emergency and Urges Residents to Prepare for Tropical Storm Idalia

August 28, 2023 - St. Petersburg Mayor Kenneth T. Welch has declared a local State of Emergency and urges residents to prepare for Tropical Storm Idalia, which is expected to strengthen to a Category 3 hurricane at landfall.

NOTE: Mayor Welch will hold a press conference to provide an update on Tropical Storm Idalia at 4:00 p.m. at the St. Petersburg Emergency Operations Center, located at the St. Pete Police Department (1301 1st Ave N).

Evacuation Update:
Pinellas County has issued a mandatory evacuation for Zone A. More information, here: https://pinellas.gov/news/idalia-county-orders-mandatory-evacuations-of-zone-a-mobile-home-residents/. Visit this site to find your zone information: https://kyz.pinellas.gov/.

Sandbags Update:
Sandbag distribution will STOP after 7 p.m., Monday, August 28 at all sites. There will be no sandbag distribution after today. More info at: www.stpete.org/sandbags

Trash & Recycling Update:

  • Trash will be picked up as originally scheduled, today, August 28.

  • Once picked up, please make sure your cans are secured after pick up. Trash pick ups scheduled for Tuesday, August 29, are planned as originally scheduled, until further notice.

City Closures Update:

  • City Hall, City offices, and facilities will be closed on Tuesday, August 29, and Wednesday, August 30.

  • All City recreation facilities will be closed and recreation programming will be canceled starting Tuesday, August 29, through Wednesday, August 30.
