City of St. Petersburg Mayor Ken Welch Opens Weekend Camps for Families Impacted by Hurricane Idalia

St. Petersburg, FL (September 1, 2023) - City of St. Petersburg Mayor Kenneth T. Welch and City leadership have worked quickly to organize two weekend camps to help families impacted by Hurricane Idalia.

Shore Acres Recreation Center (4230 Shore Acres Blvd NE), located in the heart of the Shore Acres neighborhood - a major flood-impacted zone - will offer weekend camps on September 2-3 and September 9-10 at no cost to city residents. Youth in kindergarten through eighth grade are welcome, however, space is limited.

St. Pete Mayor Kenneth T. Welch said, "Storm cleanup is a difficult and stressful time. For parents cleaning up their homes and figuring out next steps, maintaining some kind of normalcy for their children can be a challenge. I’d like to thank our Parks and Recreation team for going the extra mile to coordinate these post-storm weekend camps that can alleviate some of our families' burdens."

The camps will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Camp will not be offered on Monday, September 4. Parents will need to register their children in person at the center and bring a non-refrigerated lunch.
