Free Christmas Tree Collection Begins Saturday, January 6

St. Petersburg, FL (December 29, 2023) - The City of St. Petersburg will begin collecting live Christmas trees for free during a one-time, city-wide collection event starting Saturday, January 6 until Friday, February 2.

How to get your live Christmas tree collected (no artificial trees):

  1. Remove all lights, ornaments, garland, tree stands, plastic tree disposal bags, and other decorations. The City recommends reducing waste by reusing lights and ornaments, or donating them. **Please note: Strands of Christmas lights can get tangled in recycling machines and cause significant equipment damage.**

  2. Place the tree out for collection before 7 a.m. on Saturday, January 6, in the same location where trash is usually collected. If trash is picked up at the curb, trees should be placed at the curb; if trash is picked up in the alley, trees should be placed in the alley.

  3. Do not place the tree inside trash or recycling containers or lean the tree against electrical poles, trash containers, water meters, etc.

  4. The city-wide collection could take up to four weeks, so please be patient!

After February 2, those who missed the collection event can request a Special Pickup of their Christmas tree by submitting a request at stpete.org/service or by calling the Sanitation Department at 727-893-7398 during normal business hours.

Residents can also drop trees off at one of the City's brush sites listed below. Brush sites are open 9 a.m. - 5:30 p.m., 7 days a week. Brush sites are closed on New Year's Day. Residents should bring a photo ID and water bill for proof of residency. More information at stpete.org/brushsites.
