Connecting South St. Pete CRA

"A new vision for transportation and mobility"

Project Overview

The Connecting South St. Pete CRA Study is a community-driven initiative that aims to identify strategies to improve walking, biking, and transit access across South St. Pete neighborhoods and commercial corridors. This study, sponsored by the City of St. Petersburg, the CRA, and the PSTA, will identify projects with deep community support that can make a significant positive impact on the lives of residents and businesses within the community.

The study seeks to:

  • Improve our transit system.
  • Make transit more user-friendly.
  • Enhance safety for all.
  • Make our community more walkable and bikeable.
  • Embrace innovative technologies.
  • Increase access to the city and region.

Vision Of The Future

The vision for the Connecting South St. Pete CRA Study is to create a connected, vibrant, and accessible South St. Pete. The CRA is on a mission to answer critical questions:

  • What transportation improvements are best for the future of our community?
  • What changes will have the most positive impact on the lives of South St. Pete residents and businesses?
  • Are the streets vibrant, creating a lively atmosphere for residents and visitors alike?
  • In what ways can our transportation improvements foster a sense of unity and collaboration among community members?
A path is being forged toward a South St. Pete that not only meets the transportation needs of today but also envisions a thriving and interconnected community for generations to come.

How We Get There

The Connecting South St. Petersburg CRA Study will be executed in three phases, and your community participation will be crucial to our success.

Phase 1
Discovery: In this phase, the aim is to identify the transportation challenges facing South St. Pete and understand transportation barriers, safety issues, and challenges in getting around. Share your experiences and insights to shape the future of mobility in the community.

Phase 2
Visioning: During this phase, we'll define innovative projects to enhance access and mobility. Hearing the thoughts from the South St. Pete community on positive impacts
and ideas for easier travel in their area. Community input will play a vital role in shaping the vision to be more connected.

Phase 3
Project Prioritization: In the planning phase, priorities will be set for impactful projects and investments. Identifying crucial projects that could swiftly improve life for South St. Pete residents and businesses. The voices of the residents and business owners in the area will be the most important part of showing where to invest and how to create a better future for the community.

About the South St. Petersburg Community Redevelopment Area

The South St. Petersburg Community Redevelopment Area (CRA) was established to promote reinvestment in housing and neighborhoods, commercial corridors, business development, and education and workforce development. The 7.4 square-mile CRA is the largest in St. Pete and one of the largest in Florida. The CRA is comprised of Greater Childs Park, more than 20 neighborhood and business associations, and two Florida Main Street Districts. The South St. Petersburg CRA is generally bounded by 2nd Avenue North, Interstate 275, Interstate 175, and Booker Creek on the north; 4th Street South on the east; 30th Avenue South on the south; and 49th Street on the west.
