Water Bill Assistance for St. Pete Families

St. Petersburg, Florida (Sept. 2, 2022) -  The Pinellas County Urban League is now offering LIHWAP services. The Low-Income Household Water Assistance Program (LIHWAP) is a federally funded program that helps income-qualified families with water and wastewater cost. LIHWAP will assist eligible households by providing a grant to help pay for past due monthly water bills. The grant amount is based on income and household size, and the service is available to all eligible households in Pinellas County.

“We are happy to be expanding our utility assistance services at a time when families are being stretched financially,” says Charlotte Anderson, Interim Chief Executive Office at Pinellas County Urban League. “LIHWAP is helping us to continue empowering communities and changing lives.”

Here are the eligibility requirements:

  • Have a total income no more than 60 percent of the Florida State Median Income (SMI;.
  • Are responsible for paying your home water or wastewater bill;.
  • Are a resident of Florida; and
  • Are a U.S. Citizen, qualified alien, or permanent resident

LIHWAP services are available now. For more information on income requirements and to apply for LIHWAP services, visit pcul.org/housing.

St. Petersburg utility customers that are having trouble paying their utility bill are also encouraged to call the City of St. Petersburg Utility Customer Service Call Center at 727-893-7341 or email Utility.Bill@stpete.org to make payment arrangements. The Utility Customer Service Call Center is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Customers are encouraged to make payment arrangements with the City as soon as possible to avoid the associated fees.
